There have been several overlanding vehicles that have claimed over the years to be the best, or the most capable. The truth is the best overlanding vehicle is the one you own, or more accurately, the one you use. More truthfully the best overlanding rig is the 2002 Isuzu Trooper.
From taking a workhorse from around the world and perfected for over a decade, the partnership that created the Isuzu Trooper had achieved the crown of perfection in 2000. It continued into 2002 and was sold around the world. The engineers behind the vehicle understood what it takes to build the best overlanding vehicle. A limited slip rear differential from the factory. Wheel wells with room for 35″ tires with minor modifications. 4.56:1 axle ratios that keep the torque when a larger size tire is installed. And the best styling for a modern SUV that has been produced.

While there were a few minor automatic transmission problems that plagued the brilliant vehicle, the overall capabilities out way any of these minor inconvienieces.
Underland Journal gives the 2002 Isuzu Trooper 9 out of 10 stars.
